Daniels by Colin Munro

Some time ago we wondered about our first Munro being called Donald. I wonder if Colin Munro has come up with the answer? This is what he sent to me.

Re Donald: Recent Big Y tests show that among the closest relatives before surnames of the Munro of Foulis male DNA line are a family now called Daniels. They share a marker called Y11772+ (most recent common male ancestor still ~1500 years ago). Since Daniels is effectively the same as “sons of Donald” (Domhnall being Gaelic for Daniel) it make you wonder if the Donald has the same origin in both lines, or at least whether it’s been a common name in our ancestral lines for that length of time.
