About Me

My name is Donald (Don) Munro and I am a Quantity Surveyor (retired). I was born in the little village of Maryburgh, just 7 miles south of Foulis Castle. When I was 3 years old our family moved a further 7 miles south, to the village of Beauly where I lived until 1963, when I married Christine Elizabeth (Bet) Merrilees and,  just one month after our wedding, we emigrated to Australia. Bet and I lived in Adelaide, South Australia for a year and then moved to Western Australia and have lived here ever since – 20 miles south of Perth. We have three children, eight grandchildren and this year we will have our first great grandchild.

We went back to Scotland in 2002 to attend our first Clan Munro Gathering and while we were there, I was asked by the lovely Isma Munro to be the representative of our Chief, Hector Munro of Foulis, in Australia, an honour I quickly accepted. Originally this was merely to be an agency to collect and send the Australian members annual dues to Scotland but I could not stop there and started our newsletter which I produce three times a year. If you would like to be included on my mailing list just let me know. Its content is Munro orientated and has a genealogy section which has been successful in finding Munro cousins throughout Australia and the rest of the world.

I then found that a former Clan Representative had a website almost ready to go so, with a little tweaking, it was up and running. Unfortunately, it was hacked and destroyed so we were without a website until an American Clan Munro member offered to get a website up and running for us. This worked very successfully until he decided for some reason that I cannot find, to cut off all contact with us!! Although it is still on the internet it is not a working website. A friend took heed of my tale of woe and offered to build another website for me so, third time lucky, our new, official website is up and running – it is www.clanmunroassociation.org.au. It is so confusing to have two sites on line. The old, now unofficial website is www.clanmunroaustralia.org so please use our new one.

My passion is the Clan Munro and is the reason for this blog. With your help, I hope to learn more about our Clan and its origins and along the way, maybe dispel some of the myths about our Clan.
